June 3? June 4? What’s today? Or, in a way, tomorrow?
I dunno. But I will be spinning at the Royale, 9-something to 1-something.
Tonight. Slash. Tomorrow.

Filling in for Darren Snow on the Memorial Day edition of “Rocket 88,” two days hence, 6-8 a.m. Yikes.
Added about a dozen links, over there on the right.
That is all.
After a couple hours of spinnin’ on KDHX tomorrow, I’ll bring my Domino’s bag of musical treats over to The Royale, 3132 So. Kingshighway. Will spin from 10:00 p.m. until close at 1:17 a.m. No theme comes to mind immediately, but we’ll see what’s packed t’morrow afternoon. See ya.
Best,
Old Spinny
On Friday, I’ll be guesting on Randy Grim’s WGUN 920 AM radio show, from noon-1 p.m., alongside fellow guests Paul Schankman of KTVI and Dallas Drake of the St. Louis Blues. Hmm, how about that? (Based on a reader question: the show will have something to do with animals. Thanks for asking. Update: the show went well. Randy’s actually a natural on the mic; WGNU was smart to recruit him for “Animal Tales.” Though he still didn’t get me to take a dog.)
And on Saturday, I’m pleased to be filling in for Nico Leone on KDHX’s “Coin-Operated Radio” from 6-8 p.m. on 88.1 FM. Ryne Watts (pictured) will be playing live during the first segment.
May 22: Richard Rosenfeld and Andrew Scavatto, editor and writer of “Hidden Assets: Connecting the Past to the Future of St. Louis”
May 29: Bernie Hayes, author of “The Death of Black Radio”
June 5: discussion of urban farming/markets, exact guests TBD
June 12: Doug Whyte, KDHX-TV & the 48 Hour Film Project
June 19: James Kellogg, editor of “From the Day’s Journey” by the late Harry Rosecrans Burke
June 26: Wade Rouse, author, “America’s Boy”
With today’s issue, I’m starting a new column in the Post entitled – ahem – “Saturday Night Date,” which focuses on activities around town each Saturday evening. Today’s is on the band 7 Shot Screamers, who’ll appear at the Way Out Club in about six hours. Next week, a couple of options for coverage are possibilities.
I’d hotlink to the piece, but it doesn’t appear loaded into the STLtoday.com system. Hmm.
Several fine opportunities exist to join KDHX in the next week:
Uh, earlier today: 10 a.m.-12 p.m., “The Greaser’s Lunchbox” with Al Swacker
Friday, May 5: 12-2 p.m., “Bob’s Scratchy Records” with Bob Reuter
Monday, May 8: 7:30 p.m., “The Wire” with Amanda Doyle and Bob Putnam
Friday, May 12: 12-2 p.m., “Bob’s Scratchy Records” with Bob Reuter
I pitch strong, like Vida Blue.
Crazy month, still forming.
My Sauce piece is on record stores with actual records, esp. Vintage Vinyl and Euclid Records.
In Playback, I interview Eric Hall.
Thursday’s P-D/Get Out will have an interview with Matt Wagner of CBGB, rather than the usual bar review.
I have the cover of Alive this month, with a Q/A w/ Javier Mendoza. Okay!
And there’s a piece on Tension Head in the new issue of St. Louis Magazine.
Ridiculous amounts of blogging, as always, on my co-op site 52nd City.
Some interesting freelance shifting will occur in the next week. More soon.
Talk about meta-posting.
My on/off-again love affair with St. Paul sandwiches has landed me a cameo on wikipedia.org: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Paul_sandwich.
A piece on Alderman Dar Kirner on www.thecommonspace.org is cited in the new book “Hidden Assets: Connecting the Past to the Future of St. Louis.” The chapter “Amateur Sports in St. Louis” references a quote from an on-line interview with the late Alderman. It also notes: “Boxing matches can be seen at the St. Charles Family Arena or in someone’s backyard.” What?
A photo of Aaron Belz by yours truly has been given an unauthorized upload to the www.myspace.com/orthodontist page, which has resulted in the immediate scurrying of ThomasCrone.com’s legal staff.
