First Word on Last Word Features

For the past few months, I’ve been sending music-related stories to the writer/editor Alan Sculley, an STL expat whose company, Last Word Features, syndicates music journalism to papers around the country. After checking the web repeatedly for weeks, I gave up the hunt for my byline, only to find a couple of pieces on Lucero and one on the Fruit Bats in newspapers hither-and-yon.

To be honest, the money’s okay, especially if a piece hits multiple markets. The interviews, themselves, can be a bit stressful, depending on who is on the other end of the line. The bylines, though? Therein lies the ego gratification.

Lucero

And Lucero again.

Memory Hall is Back

For a time, I thought that writing a Substack about moving to New Orleans, one which I dubbed Newbie Orleans, was a fantastic idea. The broader, general public did not agree.

I’ve been publishing at Thomas Crone’s Memory Hall again, also via Substack. It’s awesome!
